I share custody of an adorable 2-year-old staffie/pittie mix named Blue. He is the most freaking adorable little nutcase. Currently, he is licking the coconut oil off my legs. So far this morning (6 am on my day off from work) we have greeted the kids at the bus stop, said hello to a couple of dogs at the dog park, waded and played fetch in the dog pond, had a bath, had breakfast, chewed up a squeaky squirrel toy, chewed on a cheese-loaded chew toy, and are pouting because we are bored of watching mom focus on something other than him. It's 9:30 am. Nothing like a pittie that needs potty to get the day started.
I have over a thousand photos of him in my Google photo album.
Blue is doing great with two households - dogs are so adaptive! He gets mom-style love at my place and dad-style love at his other place. It's been an honor watching him adjust to his new situation. His dad and I are friends, and the opportunity to help Blue and him care for Blue came up after my dog died last year. The Dog Distribution system came through for Blue big time!
Between Ruby Red and Blue, I've learned so much about communication and cues. I'm testing my abilities by caring for a dog with social stigmas he has no idea of, the intelligence and independent thinking he has, and the eternal playful energy well he has. He also teaches me about boundaries because he constantly tests them.
I get to practice setting boundaries for his behavior so that he learns manners around humans. This is excellent for me - I used to be a pushover.
There is so much about this breed that is amazing. I love all the social media accounts of happy well-adjusted pitbulls. I am smitten with mine and am eternally grateful for this licky goofy handsome bundle of love. He truly is a pitbull awareness success story.
