Fun fact about me: I don't own a TV out of choice. Recently I reminded a friend I met a year and a half ago of this fact when he asked if I'd seen a new show. His response was "Still?!"
Why do I not own a TV? I hate materialism. I hate background noise for the sake of noise. I hate being sucked into binging a show and emerging from the fog realizing I could have spent those ten to fourteen hours on more productive pursuits. (in all honestly, I still find ways to waste time, don't worry). But not having a TV has resulted in me setting records for how soon I fold clean laundry (still not consistent with that timeline though), how often I find interesting hobbies to pursue, the number of books read despite working a full-time job, and freedom from being tied to yet another device that requires a subscription to enjoy.
TV has great content, don't get me wrong. I could sit all weekend and binge BritBox or surf mystery channels or documentaries. It's a great way for us to get out of our own lives and experience a new perspective or get in touch with another culture when travel expenses are not reasonable for the budget. But the idea of sitting all weekend is what prompted me to not purchase a TV when my life changed (that's another blog post - shameless plug to stay tuned in).
I'm in a self-growth phase of my life and enjoy being able to journal, spend time with the animals in my life, reflect on daily experiences, and how my reactions to daily experiences have changed over the last ten years. Journaling especially is less painful and duty-driven because I spend more time musing.
I sound like some ascended spiritual master's disciple, but I'm simply a gal who limits her US media (my time waster is Instagram - the one social media platform I allow myself) to focus on being the most interesting version of myself that I can be.
