I wrote about Triggers in August. I've come across the opposite side of that coin: Glimmers.

Glimmers are the small moments of positivity that restore hope or cause something to feel good in you; exactly the opposite of Triggers.

Until I heard of glimmers, I was struggling with how to handle triggers. After learning about glimmers I have adopted the mindset triggers are what they are and I can't modulate them into a positive. I can't force the person or event that triggered me to change. But I can modulate my responses and put it behind me. I have the power to disallow the trigger or my responses to dictate the next hour or more of my life.

What then if I remove the impact of the trigger? There is a void. I have the power to recognize glimmers and even to seek them out. Glimmers fill that void.

Hope depicted as a warrior princess on a flaming battlefield

I saw a description on social media of Hope as a warrior who gets up with dirt on her cheek and battle scars to have another go. Every glimmer I recognize is Hope tackling triggers and difficulties in life.

If I allow my triggers to take up my life, I spend energy on something that isn't improving my life. The trigger wins and I don't have the time or energy to seek out good things in life. Screw you, triggers. And like Ariana Grande sings, "Thank you, next".
